Practical guide

Treat WhatsApp campaign permission as a relationship, not a checkbox

Access to a phone number is not automatically permission for every future campaign. Responsible programmes document why a person should receive a message and make preferences easy to change.

Define the audience before writing

Start with the customer relationship and stated interests. A narrow, relevant audience usually creates a better experience than sending every message to the entire contact database.

Exclude opted-out, ineligible or recently over-messaged contacts before scheduling.

Use clear approved templates

Make the sender, purpose and expected action obvious. Avoid disguising promotional content as a service notice.

Preview variables with realistic data and ensure missing values cannot create confusing or unsafe messages.

Measure beyond delivery

Delivered and read counts do not prove value. Track useful replies, completed actions, complaints, opt-outs and downstream outcomes.

Use frequency and feedback evidence to reduce irrelevant messaging rather than continually increasing volume.
