Acceptable Use and WhatsApp Messaging Policy

Effective date: 20 September 2026

This policy applies to every user, message, campaign, automation, product, integration and transaction using the Platform. It supplements the Terms. Merchants must also follow the current WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy, WhatsApp legal terms, Meta commerce rules and applicable law. If a third-party rule is stricter, the stricter rule applies.

Consent and recipient expectations

Before messaging a person, the Merchant must receive the number through a lawful source; obtain clear affirmative consent to WhatsApp messages from the named business; explain message categories and reasonable frequency; retain evidence; and provide an easy opt-out.

Buying lists, finding a public number, silence, pre-ticked boxes or general marketing consent that does not identify WhatsApp is not sufficient. Separate consent should cover materially different categories such as order updates and promotions.

Opt-outs and suppression

Promptly honor “stop”, “unsubscribe”, “do not contact me”, blocks and equivalent signals received inside or outside WhatsApp. Suppress opted-out recipients unless they later give fresh consent. Do not evade an opt-out with another number or account.

Message types and timing

  • Business-initiated conversations must use a Meta-approved template when required.
  • Free-form replies may be sent only within WhatsApp's permitted customer-service window after the user's latest message.
  • Templates may be used only for their approved category and purpose.
  • Messages must identify the business and be accurate, relevant, expected and proportionate.
  • Monitor quality, blocks, complaints, failures and opt-outs; reduce or stop activity when signals deteriorate.

Prohibited activity

Do not use the Services for spam; deception; impersonation; fraud; phishing; malware; unlawful surveillance; harassment; threats; hate or discriminatory targeting; sexual exploitation; trafficking; illegal weapons or drugs; stolen or counterfeit goods; unlawful gambling; pyramid schemes; predatory lending; unauthorized debt collection; or anything prohibited by WhatsApp, Meta commerce rules or law.

Regulated industries must satisfy licences, age gates, disclosures, geography restrictions and platform rules. Do not request passwords, full payment-card data or sensitive credentials through insecure chat flows.

Political parties, politicians, candidates, campaigns, law-enforcement, military, national-security and intelligence uses may be restricted or prohibited. Those users must obtain written confirmation of eligibility before use.

Commerce, automation and AI

Merchants must accurately describe products, price, availability, delivery, refunds and limitations; provide required terms, privacy notices and support; and comply with tax and consumer law. Merchants are responsible for transactions and fulfilment.

Bots and AI must not deceptively impersonate humans. Provide human escalation where appropriate. Do not make unlawful discriminatory or high-impact automated decisions without sufficient review. Review AI output before sending where error could cause material harm.

Technical abuse

Do not probe, scan, overload, scrape or attack the Services; bypass rate limits, recipient checks, billing or security; expose tokens or secrets; introduce malicious code; access another tenant; or use unofficial WhatsApp clients or unauthorized bulk sending.

Enforcement

We may investigate, request consent evidence, throttle campaigns, suppress recipients, reject content, suspend integrations or accounts, preserve evidence and report conduct where reasonably necessary. Meta and WhatsApp may independently restrict templates, phone numbers, WhatsApp Business Accounts or business portfolios. Severe or repeated violations, evasion or failure to cooperate may result in termination. Merchants remain responsible even when Platform controls do not detect a violation.
